Aishia "Mama" King
Hello. My name is Aishia M. King and I enjoy being a teacher at MGM. I have been teaching here for twelve years; however, I completed my last semester of college here as a student teacher with Ms. Paulette Davis. I am a Mobile native. I attended two of every kind of school (let me explain). I attended two elementary, middle, and high schools. I went to Orchard and E R. Dickson for elementary school; Phillips Preparatory and Hillsdale for middle school; John S. Shaw and John L. LeFlore for high school. By attending so many schools, I have come to know a lot of people and have been involved in a lot of things. I was a member of many clubs: F.E.C. - Friends of Exceptional Children, Explorer's, Junior Civitan [president], and French Club [president]. I was a member of Minton's Teen Board for two years and the Editor of my high school yearbook The Rattler. I was also a cheerleader.
I am the daughter of a preacher which has caused me to be tagged a P.K. (Preacher's Kid). That title comes with a lot of pressure and expectation, but I feel that I have handled it well. Being a pastor's daughter has also helped me deliver the "sermons" I teach everyday in the classroom. I think my students know me as the teacher with a laidback, quick-witted personality, but a firm, consistent way of doing and handling things.
My various hobbies include: scrapbooking, working with some form of technology, and spending time with my family. These are my hobbies because they are things I can't seem to get away from. I am a homebody even though I love to travel and experience new things.
I decided that I would one day be a teacher at the age of fourteen. I was sitting in my Honors English 9 class with approximately 25 other know-it-alls when I looked at my teacher, Ms. Irving, and decided that I wanted to do for others what she did for me--worked me to my potential. I thought she was outstanding. She challenged us in many ways whether it was by having us speak, act, or write creative pieces of literature. I pride myself on being someone who makes a decision and sticks with it and that is what has brought me to where I am today.
I try my best to be the best teacher that I can and teach my students lessons that they cannot only use in the classroom, but also in life.
